"LOVE AS A MOTIVATION OF LIFE FORTHE MAIN CHARACTER REFLECTED IN NATHANIELHAWTHORNE’S “RAPPACINI’S DAUGHTER”
Love is a topic that cannot be separated from human’s life. It always becomes themost interesting topic for all people. Love in a psychological context, is not only away to feel the extraordinary joy but also to experience self discovery. There areso many literary works that use love as a topic for the short story. One of them isNathniel Hawthorne’s short story entitled “Rappacini’s Daughter”. The shortstory combines love and science to be an interesting story. It does not only tellabout the happiness love, but also how tragic love is.
There are two problems that the writer tries to solve in this study. The firstproblem, what kinds of love motivation that motivate Beatrice is in the shortstory. And the second, in what ways does love motivate Beatrice in the shortstory. The purposes of this study are to describe the kinds of love motivations andin what ways love motivates the main character’s life, named Beatrice as reflectedin Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story entitled ‘Rappacini’s Daughter.”
The writer uses Qualitative method in analyzing the short story. The dataare in the forms of words, phrases and sentences. There are some steps incollecting the data. They are reading, identifying, inventorizing, classifying,reducing, selecting and reporting. All of the data are analyzed in term ofpsychological context. They are collected through appendices. There are fiveappendices in this thesis; they are A, B1, B2, C1, and C2. The overall data can beseen in the Appendix A. Appendices B1 and B2 contain the data to answer thefirst problem. And the second problem can be seen in the Appendices C1and C2.
After doing some analyzes, the writer finds that there are some lovemotivations that motivate Beatrice’s life, they are; lack of paternal love, lonelinessand the desire to be free from the poison. The motivations above create bravenessand compel Beatrice to find her own life without interference from the others.
Love also brings so many motivations in Beatrice’s life. The writer divides theminto two types, i.e. positive and negative motivation. The positive motivations arethat Beatrice has a spirit to continue her life since she is a poisonous girl, and thesecond is Beatrice wants to struggle to reach her happy life beside Giovanni. Thenegative motivations for Beatrice are that she often forgets about her duty to serveand nurse the plants since she meets her lovely, Giovanni. And the secondnegative motivation is that Beatrice often acts illogically in creating herimagination about a happy live.
From the description above the writer concludes that love is one kind ofmotivation that motivates Beatrice in the short story. Love also brings so manymotivations in Beatrice’s life. After writing this final project, the writer suggeststo the lovers do not to become blind because of love. The lovers should use thelogic, not only their heart in deciding everything in their life.

"Cinta adalah topik yang tidak dapat dipisahkan dari kehidupan manusia. Ini selalu menjadi topik yang menarik bagi semua orang. Cinta dalam konteks psikologis, tidak hanya pergi untuk merasakan sukacita yang luar biasa tetapi juga untuk mengalami penemuan diri. Ada banyak karya sastra areso yang menggunakan cinta sebagai topik untuk cerita pendek. Salah satunya cerita pendek isNathniel Hawthorne berjudul "Putri Rappacini itu". Cerita yang menggabungkan cinta dan ilmu pengetahuan untuk menjadi cerita yang menarik. Ini tidak hanya tentang kasih kebahagiaan, tetapi juga bagaimana cinta yang tragis ini.
Ada dua masalah yang penulis mencoba untuk memecahkan dalam penelitian ini. Firstproblem, apa jenis motivasi cinta yang memotivasi cerita tersebut. Dan kedua, dengan cara apa hubungan kasih memotivasi Beatrice di cerita tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan jenis-jenis motivasi apa yang Andin cinta cara cinta memotivasi kehidupan karakter utama, bernama Beatrice sebagai cerita pendek reflectedin Nathaniel Hawthorne yang berjudul 'Putri Rappacini itu. "Penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif dalam menganalisis cerita pendek. Para data dalam bentuk kata, frasa dan kalimat. Ada beberapa langkah incollecting data. Mereka membaca, mengidentifikasi, inventorizing, mengklasifikasi, mengurangi, memilih dan pelaporan. Semua data dianalisis dalam konteks ofpsychological panjang. Mereka dikumpulkan melalui lampiran. Ada fiveappendices dalam tesis ini, mereka adalah A, B1, B2, C1, dan C2. Data keseluruhan dapat beseen dalam Lampiran A. Lampiran B1 dan B2 berisi data untuk menjawab masalah thefirst. Dan masalah kedua dapat dilihat dalam Lampiran C1and C2.Setelah melakukan beberapa analisis, penulis menemukan bahwa ada beberapa cinta yang memotivasi hidup Beatrice, mereka adalah; kurangnya cinta ayah,keinginan sendiri untuk bebas dari racun. Motivasi di atas membuat bravenessand memaksa Beatrice menemukan hidupnya sendiri tanpa campur tangan dari yang lain.Cinta juga membawa begitu banyak motivasi dalam hidup Beatrice. Penulis membagi theminto dua jenis, yaitu motivasi positif dan negatif. Motivasi positif arethat Beatrice memiliki semangat untuk melanjutkan hidupnya karena ia adalah seorang gadis beracun, dan thesecond adalah Beatrice ingin berjuang untuk mencapai kehidupan yang bahagia di samping Giovanni. motivasi negatif untuk Beatrice adalah bahwa dia sering lupa tentang tugasnya untuk mengirim perawat tanaman sejak dia bertemu cantik, Giovanni. Dan motivasi yang kedua adalah bahwa Beatrice sering bertindak tidak logis dalam menciptakan imajinasi tentang hidup bahagia.Dari uraian di atas penulis menyimpulkan bahwa cinta adalah salah satu jenis memotivasi Beatrice dalam cerita pendek. Cinta juga membawa begitu memotivasi dalam kehidupan Beatrice. Setelah menulis tugas akhir, penulis setuju para pecinta tidak menjadi buta karena cinta. Para pecinta harus menggunakan akal , tidak hanya hati mereka dalam memutuskan segala sesuatu dalam hidup mereka.

Motivasi positif arethat Beatrice memiliki semangat untuk melanjutkan hidupnya karena ia adalah seorang gadis beracun, dan thesecond adalah Beatrice ingin berjuang untuk mencapai kehidupan yang bahagia di samping Giovanni. motivasi negatif untuk Beatrice adalah bahwa dia sering lupa tentang tugasnya untuk mengirim perawat tanaman sejak dia bertemu cantik, Giovanni. Dan motivasi yang kedua adalah bahwa Beatrice sering bertindak tidak logis dalam menciptakan imajinasi tentang hidup bahagia.Dari uraian di atas penulis menyimpulkan bahwa cinta adalah salah satu jenis memotivasi Beatrice dalam cerita pendek. Cinta juga membawa begitu memotivasi dalam kehidupan Beatrice. Setelah menulis tugas akhir, penulis setuju para pecinta tidak menjadi buta karena cinta. Para pecinta harus menggunakan akal , tidak hanya hati mereka dalam memutuskan segala sesuatu dalam hidup mereka.
